ANTIQUE AFRICAN ETHIOPIAN HEADREST DECORATED w/ BEADS, SHELLS And PIGMENT

Description

This authentic African tribal art wooden headrest was hand carved and used to preserve an elaborate hairstyle during sleep. Made of unknown reddish-brown wood. It is hand carved from a single piece of wood and some tool marks are still visible. The shape is a double-cone base with a crescent-shaped platform and dropped side elements. The underside of the cone base is partially hollowed.
It has black and red pigment decorations, visible now only as traces, and elaborate bead and shell work. Some tassels on one side appear to be missing (see pics). Condition is otherwise excellent. This measures about 8” wide and 6 5/8” high, and the base is 6” diameter. This will be carefully packaged and shipped USPS Priority Mail.
